You don’t have to be a criminal to be charged with a crime—people make mistakes, and many times it may just be a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Unfortunately, a criminal charge of any kind can put your reputation, your career, and your very liberty at risk, and every decision you make in the events that follow—especially the attorney you hire—can have serious impacts that will affect you for the rest of your life.

If you are seeking representation for a criminal case in MD, DC, or VA, call The Law Offices of David Pasti now at 301-762-1901 or contact us online.

Important Information Regarding Criminal Charges

When you are arrested or brought in for questioning, do not answer any questions other than your name and address. You will be told that the police will help you in your case if you fully cooperate. Always call us first, and if you don’t reach us, remain silent. Also follow this advice if you are talking to ICE officials.

Do not consent to a polygraph, voice stress test, or other similar “lie detector” examination or any type of search. Do not provide any specimens from your body, such as blood, hair, saliva, or semen, and do not consent to any physical examination. Do not consent to being recorded speaking, or consent to a line-up or other identification procedure.

If the police have a warrant, ask to see it before the proposed search. You should not answer any questions during the execution of the search warrant unless you know for a fact that a secured place contains no contraband, drugs, or other evidence of a crime, and you’re aware of the fact that the police are about to cause substantial damage to your property.

If you have been accused of violating your probation, your freedom and future are both at risk. Common probation violations include:

  • Failing a drug test
  • Being charged with a new offense
  • Failing to pay court-ordered fines or restitution
  • Not remaining in contact with probation or parole officials

If you know you are in violation of your parole or probation, contact the Law Offices of David Pasti as soon as possible. We will represent you on the setting of bond and attempt to obtain personal recognizance or a very reasonable bond.

Driving Under the Influence (DUI) / Driving While Intoxicated (DWI)

After a night of fun, it’s easy to make a bad decision. Even if you think you’re “fine,” you can be pulled over and charged with a DUI or DWI—a crime with serious consequences, potentially including jail time and the loss of your license. Worse, driving under the influence of alcohol puts you, anyone in your car, and any other cars on the road with you at serious risk or injury or fatality.

If you’ve been charged with a DUI or DWI, we can analyze your case for any possible legal challenges, which may include challenges to the way the police stopped you and challenges to the way procedures were followed. In these cases, you need to make sure you hire an experienced attorney able to spot and attack these issues—the officer may not have had probable cause for the traffic stop. We may obtain a dismissal or acquittal or, if necessary, a favorable plea.

Drug Possession or Distribution

Many people charged with the possession of certain drugs, including marijuana or cocaine, may be struggling with serious addiction problems or may have just fallen in with the wrong types of people. Since drugs of this kind are considered Controlled Dangerous Substances, drug charges often involve search and seizure by the police and can carry extreme fines and/or serious jail time.
